Paypal has formed a new bestie in the Canadian shopper this week as it introduced its 'Return Shipping On Us' Initiative. Canada now joins the UK, USA and Australia where millions of shoppers are already participating in the program to ease their return woes.
This latest offer follows the results from a survey on Canadian customers in April, which found that 40% worry about ordering the wrong item online and not being able to return it. 27% of Canadians surveyed say they have paid returns shipping costs in the past year, and among those who have done so, 65% say it cost more than $10 each time. The latest initiative works by allowing customers up to 10 refunds per year, with Paypal covering up to $30 Canadian dollars of return costs per claim.
Great news for the Canadian consumer, but free Paypal returns also eases pressure on small businesses in Canada to stump up the return cost themselves. Offering low-cost or free returns can make a huge difference to checkout conversion, so Paypal could really help boost SME's sales. We often refer back to the impressive 320% sales increase that two retail giants saw when they began offering free returns, so fingers crossed this latest move by Paypal will mean smiles all round.
